Lead blankets are wrapped in a heavy-duty non-flammable PVC which is easy to decontaminate. They provide lead effective shielding against typical ionizing radiation sources found in nuclear environments. lead blankets can be hung from a frame, laid down on the ground or on top of containers, or wrapped around radioactive pipes or valves.
Conventional lead blankets often use lead wool to provide shielding but this has a risk of shine paths and sagging, leaving the potential for areas of the blanket with less protection. Calder lead sheet blankets offer similar flexibility to conventional lead wool blankets but with more reliable shielding properties.
